My Interview Experience at Shopee Singapore — Data Scientist

Hi! I’m Desmond 😄, a Data Scientist (Machine Learning Framework & Infra) in Shopee Singapore. I graduated from the University of Malaya’s Bachelor of Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence). In this post, I will be sharing the interview process, as well as useful tips that helped me to get to the role!

Note: This post is written in Jan 2021 and talks about my interview experience back in Q3 2020. Take this post as a reference! Shopee is fast-paced & quick to adapt to changes. The company continually works on improving its interview process, and the process may be different today than what I went through last year. 😄

It started back in Q3 of 2020, when I came across a number of Shopee job openings on LinkedIn. As an active Shopee user, I have seen tremendous growth of Shopee’s platform and its market share in the Southeast Asia region over a short span of time. (Not to mention the catchy ‘Baby Shark’ commercial 🦈) I wanted to learn more about the team that’s driving Shope’s growth.

After looking at the Shopee’s Careers site, I sent in an application for the Data Science (Listing Team) role. (I applied for the DS Listing Team but landed an offer with on a different DS team, I’ll mention more about this later in this post!)
